SAPREF Response to the Media

Southern Star
14 July 2005

Question: : It has come to the attention of the Southern Star newspaper that the Durban International Airport will be relocating to La Mercy and in it's place a business park will be built. However, the MRA have revealed that the residents are totally against this plan as a Link Road will then be built to service this business park. They claim that SAPREF will also not allow anyone to use their road as a means to the said Business Park. It has now been suggested that Engen Refinery relocate to this land instead. Rajah Naidoo explained that Engen seems to be interested and are communicating with the Municipality in this regard. Does SAPREF have any knowledge of these happenings, and if so, can you give us clarity on what is unfolding with this.?

SAPREF's response: ACSA would be the appropriate body to contact regarding the development of their land. With regard to Refinery Drive, SAPREF has approached the eThekwini Municipality to take over ownership of the road as SAPREF is no longer the sole user of this road.
