SAPREF STATEMENT ON THE FLARING BOOKLET PRODUCED BY THE SOUTH DURBAN COMMUNITY ENVIRONMENTAL ALLIANCE (SDCEA)18 May 2005 SAPREF agreed to participate in the production of the flaring booklet as we believed it could be useful in building public knowledge of flaring at the refineries in South Durban if it was accurate and wholly in context to crude oil refining. We see the booklet as a missed opportunity to better inform the community about flaring because of SDCEA's selective use of independent information, despite our request that they make full use of this information, or use alternative information from an international environmental body.
