SAPREF refinery to get new managing director08 November 2007

SAPREF announced today the appointment of Bart Voet as Managing Director to succeed Wayne Pearce, who moves to The Hague to take up a new role as Global Manager Process Safety Assurance with Shell.

Voet will take over the responsibility of SAPREF Managing Director from end November. Before taking up the SAPREF role, Bart was Shell Vice President Wind Energy. In previous roles he gained a broad range of manufacturing experience in joint venture companies and has held several leadership roles in areas such as Consultancy and Plant Operations. During his career Bart has been based in Oman, Netherlands, US, UK, Nigeria and Australia. Voet said “I look forward to working at SAPREF and to be able to help build on the achievements of the SAPREF team.”

SAPREF’s Profile

The SAPREF crude oil refinery is a 50/50 joint venture between Shell South Africa Energy and BP Southern Africa. SAPREF is southern Africa’s largest crude oil refinery, with 35 percent of the country’s refining capacity. This equates to 180 000 barrels of crude oil per day or 8.5 million tons per year. SAPREF’s facilities comprise a single buoy mooring, a storage facility at the Durban harbour, joint bunkering services and the refinery itself, which is located in Prospecton. The refinery has been operating since 1963.
