SAPREF Refinery Shutdown

12 MARCH 2008

During the heavy storm on the night of 11 March, the boilers at the SAPREF refinery tripped resulting in the loss of utilities such as steam. This necessitated the refinery being safely shutdown with resultant flaring.

The cause of the trip is being investigated.

Plans for restarting the refinery are in hand and it is expected that initial start-up work will commence today. Re-starting the refinery is a process which will last about five days. During this time production will be phased in.
