Company Structure

The SAPREF team is made up of a number of departments all working together to ensure that the refinery's vision and purpose are fulfilled. The refinery encourages a participative style of management and has a relatively flat organisation structure. The leadership team consists of the managing director, the engineering, technical, HSSE, finance, human resources, maintenance, hydrocarbons, operations and sustainable development managers. The next tier of management consists of section heads who lead various departments.
 

A summary of the each section is as follows:

Managing Director
Robin Mooldijk is currently the managing director of SAPREF. He heads the SAPREF leadership team and is the SAPREF representative on the company board.

ENGINEERING
The Engineering Department is responsible for all projects, inspection, ME&I standards and design, tank maintenance, plant integrity and reliability, civil installations and facilities. Its main responsibility is to support operations and maintenance departments to ensure that the plant operates at maximum availability and at minimum running costs. Carel Mensing is SAPREF’s Engineering Manager.

TECHNICAL
The process technology team provides advise on process safety, plant operation, optimisation, process control, safeguarding, process modification and project development of SAPREF’s facilities. They also look at the long-term view of the refinery and develop projects to meet future specifications. The information technology section also forms part of the technical team, as does the laboratory, which is responsible for quality assurance of all products. Moosa Karodia is SAPREF’s technical manager.

HSE
The HSE team ensures that SAPREF facilities adhere to and improve their health, safety and environmental performance. An on-site clininc is available to provide primary health care to staff and contractors. John van Belkum is SAPREF’s HSE manager.

FINANCE
The finance team provides all treasury, controlling and accounting functions and is responsible for procurement of products and services. In addition, it is responsible for internal audit and legal. Colin Muthusami is SAPREF’s finance manager.

HR
Human Resources  - The human resources team is responsible for staff recruitment, labour relations, training and benefits administrations. Musa Mkhwanazi currently heads the HR team.

OPERATIONS
The Operations department is responsible for safe production of hydrocarbon products according to plan. The department is also responsible for emergency response services. Liziwe Mda is SAPREF’s operations manager.

HYDROCARBONS
The hydrocarbons department manages the planning and execution of refinery utilization with the shareholders. It also controls the measurement and movement of oil in and out of Sapref and utility production. Included in this are facilities such as the Single Buoy Mooring which are managed on behalf of several oil companies. Rodney Youldon is SAPREF’s hydrocarbons manager.
 
MAINTENANCE
The maintenance department is accountable for the safe and efficient execution of all maintenance activities at the refinery and its associated facilities. Garry Tate is SAPREF’s maintenance manager.

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
The sustainable development department is responsible for social performance issues, including communications, social investment and stakeholder relations.Lindiwe Khuzwayo is SAPREF’s sustainable development manager.

BUSINESS IMPROVEMENTS
The Business Improvement Process is aimed at improving SAPREF’s performance in the priority areas of Safety, Integrity, Reliability, Product Quality, People, (SIRQP) whilst maintaining company standards and legal compliance. Eddie Chettiar is SAPREF’s business improvement manager.
